Vera Pagava: Silent Cities
TBC Gallery presents a major survey of Georgian-born French artist Vera Pagava (1907–1988), showcasing her haunting cityscapes and architectural visions. Born in Tbilisi and later based in Paris, Pagava’s artistic journey spanned oil painting, textile design, and stained glass.
Silent Cities illuminates Pagava’s transition from figuration to abstraction between the 1950s and 1980s. Her later works, stripped of literal representation, evoke urban landscapes through an interplay of light, shadow, and geometric forms. These paintings, with their muted palettes and soft-edged shapes, seem to vibrate with an inner luminosity.
Curator Nina Akhvediani brings together paintings, watercolors, and drawings from the Association Culturelle Vera Pagava (AC/VP) and other collections. The exhibition features Pagava’s renowned “Silent Architecture” series, initially shown at Galerie Darial. These works blur the line between architectural studies and spiritual contemplations, inviting viewers into meditative, dreamlike spaces.
